Sotto is built to keep your words on your device.
Translation is on-device. The texts you type, dictate, photograph, or hear translated are processed entirely on your iPhone/iPad by a locally installed AI model. They are never sent to us or to any server, and we cannot see them. Your history and favorites are stored only on your device.
No accounts, no analytics, no ads. Sotto has no sign-up, collects no usage analytics, and contains no advertising or tracking SDKs.
Speech. Speech recognition and voice output use Apple’s system frameworks. On-device recognition is used whenever iOS supports it for the language. If you enable “Allow online fallback” in Settings, audio for unsupported languages is processed by Apple’s servers under Apple’s privacy terms; turn the toggle off for strictly on-device behavior.
Model download. The translation model is downloaded once from Hugging Face’s servers; like any download, that request exposes your IP address to the hosting provider. No personal data is included.
Purchases. Payments are processed by Apple. To validate purchases and enable features like Restore, Sotto uses RevenueCat, which receives your App Store receipt and a random anonymous identifier — never your name, email, or the content you translate. Permissions. Camera (photograph text to translate), microphone and speech recognition (dictation and conversation mode) are used only for those features, only while you use them.
